I Corinthians 10:11-14 tells us to flee from Idolatry.
Please understand that God does not tell us to flee from pleasure because he
gives us pleasures in life to enjoy. We are not told to flee from pleasure but from
idolatry. We must identify for ourselves when we have crossed the line to dependency
and then find the way of escape that God has.
The person who is fleeing acknowledges their struggles and
seeks Gods grace. They are is no longer in bondage but on the road to freedom which
maybe as good as it gets on this side of heaven. The person that is honest
about their addictions will be far more effective in ministry than one who
pretends they have no additions or denies in their hearts that they an idolater.
We all need to see our addictions as idolatry and realize how they keep us from full enjoyment and participation in worship and service in our own community of believers.
